Dude, Donald, you Rock! I only hope I have as good a relationship with my Daughter and Son’s in laws…. BTW, yep, I planted mine deep like that this year since I did actuallly watch this video earlier this year.

It wouldn’t hurt to toss the bottom half of the peat pot into the bottom of the hole.And IMHO it would be better to bury the plant deeper, so most of that stem is underground where it will grow roots all along the length of it. You could even pinch off all of the leaves except the top couple.

You want the plant to direct it’s energy at growing and rooting not fruit production..
One thing that I have always heard was to leave the first set of leaves on the plant and bury them when you transplant them to the garden. Those first set of leaves will take root and provide a stronger root system for the tomato plant.
What ever you fell comfortable with is the right way for you……. Donald
actually, the whole stem will start sprouting roots,, some people recommend burying up to 80 percent of the plant..
Sadly several of them have a flaw that I cannot fix and do not know what is causing it (like a little chip). Some will go to Etsy and one of the ‘Garden in my Heart’ ones will go up here next week as an “I heart FF” freebie
Either the plant is not getting enough water or the soil they are planted in is not supplying necessary needs (it could be too alkaline or basic), or they need a little more shade during the heated hours when they lose moisture.
Plants will produce all they can, but if they can't support more than their own leaves with the water they are getting then they will produce sparingly.
Check and see if the leaves are yellowing or browning, then you'll be able to cross check that with a horticultural book.. Good Luck!

I just threw out a whole batch of quinoa, and I’m not that bad a cook. Best tips and advice on mastering this staple?
I’m a rookie to quinoa and figured it would work similarly to rice, so I tried using my rice cooker with a batch today. I just dumped the resulting goopy, gelatinous soapy-tasting, horrid smelling mess into the compost. This is the first EPIC FAIL I’ve had at cooking anything in, well, a very long time.
I read about the saponin content, so before I cooked it, I rinsed the raw seed quite thoroughly through a sieve this morning. As an aside, I don’t like the water waste, so maybe some tips on facilitating this process, too.
Please share your best quinoa tips, tricks and recipes. Couple of modifiers:
– no raw tomatoes (cooked or sundried is okay)
– no meat, poultry or seafood ingredients (eggs and dairy are fine)
– mint and/or mushrooms are likely not going to go over well (I can try)

yes, you can, but usually kimchi pancake is more delicious without any other ingredients for me.
Water the plant before an expected cold snap, then cover it with a piece of fabric. I bought a bolt of felt to use for covering plants. It's usually 72" wide, so it'll cover fairly tall plants. .

Sure — it's nice in the middle of winter to open up a container of sauce made from fresh tomatoes. I freeze homemade tomato sauce all the time.
The worst that could happen is that the sauce may be a little watery after being frozen. If so, just cook it down a little more and stir well.
“Joseph’s Nursery in Pearland, TX is one of the decent nurseries I have ever been to so far in Houston. It is a gigantic nursery, filled with a huge range of basically everything that can be grown in soil. They have a wide variety of flower, fruit and decorative plants, and a good selection of both Asian and native vegetable plants. Nursery looks well-maintained, the people who work there are helpful and plants’ prices are also comparable to major chain garden centers. Plus, it is almost next to Sri Meenakshi Temple which makes it convenient to do bhagavan and vana darshan one after the other on the same day. We went there last weekend for spring plant shopping.
